MISSION

The Hung Liu Estate was established upon the artist’s death at age 73 in 2021. Her Oakland studio serves as the hub of estate activities. Directed by Dr. Dorothy Moss, former curator of painting and sculpture at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, the Hung Liu Estate maintains the artist’s paintings, prints, installations and ephemera; protects and promotes the artist’s history and legacy; places works in museum collections; curates and loans works for museum and gallery exhibition; maintains an active website and social media presence for the artist; collaborates with colleges and universities in introducing students to the artist’s life and work; organizes the artist’s archive; invites and supports scholarly research and publications; collaborates with other artist estates and foundations; partners with museum professionals on colloquia, study days, and symposia; and operates the Oakland studio, directed by artist Markus Kager, as the beating heart of the Hung Liu Estate.
